The Excel Application is designed to track illegal PI tags and unused datasets in PI Process Book files. Unused datasets arise when the data is no longer needed, the definition of the dataset is maintained. Invalid PI Tags arise when they are renamed or deleted after creating the ProcessBook file tags. Invalid PI tags cause error messages in the log files of the PI server that can not be traced later. A prudent PI administrator should therefore make every effort to keep the ProcessBook files correct.
For effective analysis of the ProcessBook files Excel application works with the PI Process Book Support Tool OSIsoft.
The tool also uses the PI Process Book application to analyze files.
In Excel, the first PI Process Book files are searched and then passed to the PI Process Book Support Tool. This analyzed by PI Process Book application, the ProcessBook files and returns the found daily dataset and expressions back to Excel. Then In Excel, the tag names are extracted and evaluated by a request to the PI Server. The result consists of three Excel spreadsheets:
The first table contains all unused datasets with the containing ProcessBook file.
The second table shows all the tags ProcessBook files that have triggered at the request of the PI Server returns an error.
The third table shows all tags with a bad value.
