A modular, web-based solution

Background and initial situation

A specialty chemical manufacturing company was faced with the challenge of replacing an outdated operational data acquisition (ODA) system. The previous system was slow, offered no configuration options and was no longer supported by the manufacturer. In addition, no connection to the existing PI system was possible, and a new LIMS (laboratory information management system) was already being planned.

MEGLA approach & solution

MEGLA developed a generic, web-based ODA solution with a modular structure that can be flexibly adapted to new requirements. The solution enables a uniform mapping of the corporate structure in both the PI Asset Framework (AF) and the Web ODA, so that workers and managers alike can find their way around. The connection to the external PI system and the new LIMS created a central, reliable database. A user-friendly traffic light system supports the logistics of the decomposers, while dynamic editing masks enable the recording and display of laboratory values. The possibility that the LIMS can send notifications and information to the website has also been considered.

Results & benefits

The new solution provides a single, consistent single source of truth (SSoT), supported by user-friendly visualization that can be used alongside PI Vision. Thanks to the web-based access, the ODA can be used both on-site and remotely. In addition, the information transmission through the LIMS ensures an improved, license-independent flow of information within the company. The modular structure allows for flexible expansions, such as the integration of new product lines, and ensures future-proof maintenance and support by MEGLA.
